The Great Courses
I enjoyed college, especially the general studies classes. While I enjoyed my majors (Finance and Accounting), I wanted more science, art and history. The Great Courses is a streaming service that offers what I wanted more of. Without the tests or 8 a.m. class time.
I often tell people that to be better investor, they should read more history than news. This is a great way to learn history which provides an incredible perspective most people miss.
I have had the service for years but only recently started to keep track of which lecture series I watch. Scroll down for that list.
Some of my favorite professors are:
Robert Greenberg’s lectures of music are perfect. I can’t play an instrument and not sure I have the best ear to listen to music but Dr. Bob has improved my ear tremendously. And he’s funny and irreverent.
Dorsey Armstrong is a medieval historian whose lectures fill in the gaps people usually don’t know for that time between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance. The Plague, women, King Arthur and all that.
Gregory Aldrete teaches Ancient History and is one of the Great Courses best lecturers.
Vejas Gabriel Liulevicius teaches on Eastern European history and the rise and fall of communism. It’s a dark subject but should be required of voting age citizens.
William Kloss is a bit dry but in the best way possible. He even managed to keep my interest during his lectures on modern art.
