Quit Whining About Political Ads, You Baby

November 1st, 2012 · No Comments

I think I may go bonkers if I hear one more complaint about political ads. What are you people yearning for? Are those cell phone, cola and car ads so special to you?

At some point on Tuesday when the voting starts and those ads stop, we’ll have participated in something that is not only rare in this world today but exceedingly rare in human history. As a populace, we have more control over our own fate and government than any people at anytime in history.

In my little town I get to help decide everything from school board to the national executive. And at the top of the heap I have a choice between a racial minority and a religious minority for president. One man’s people were enslaved then disenfranchised by our country. The other man’s people were persecuted from place to place until driven into the American desert by our country. One man’s father was not a citizen of this country while the other’s was an immigrant.

It’s incredible that with all this, I have no fear of sectarian, racial or religious violence. This is unique. Supposedly civilized Europe had three major genocides in the twentieth century over less.

And you want to complain about ads. Boo hoo. Every time I see an ad I celebrate it….or just hit the mute button.
