Yelp Review: Shooter’s Supply

August 27th, 2010 · No Comments

Here’s my Yelp review of Shooter’s Supply:

Here’s what I like:  not being treated like an idiot.

Specialty shops seem to have a habit of doing this – boutique wine stores, musical instrument stores, high-end electronic, etc.

If you don’t talk their lingo they pull a Simpson’s Comic Book guy routine on you.

I feared this from Shooter’s Supply.  I’d recently bought a .38 revolver and needed a place to get use to it. I’m not much of a gun guy so pulled up google and found Shooters Supply.

Walking in I decided this was no time for false pride.  I admitted my novice status and awaited their volley of condescension.  It didn’t come.  With courtesy and respect they walked me through the process of firing and caring for my weapon and the best way to shoot it.  The told me the best ammo to buy for the range.  I knew most of this but it was nice to get confirmation.  I felt prepared…which is something you want to be while firing a weapon.

Here’s where they really earned my trust.

“OK, I’ll pay for an hour of range time,” I told the guy that’d been helping me.

“No, why don’t you try a half hour.  That thing has quite a recoil and thirty minutes of shooting that and your gonna want to stop.”

He was right.

Each experience after that has been the same.  They even helped my daughter pick a handgun that was right for her to fire.  I’m a newby still but I’m asking smarter questions but not getting smart -ass answers.

That’s a big relief.
